Description: Fragment of the book Sin azúcar. Una mujer occidental en Marruecos (Without Sugar. A Western woman in Morocco) published in Spanish (original in Catalan) by Editorial Cuatro Lunas. Without Sugar does not speak about “a country” but about the intimate vicissitudes that “foreign” everyday situations provoke in the narrative voice. It is therefore from the embodied experience of the daily life of a Moroccan middle class family that the voice takes shape. It is not an autobiographical work, no travel narrative, nor an essay or journalistic investigation, no fiction neither. It’s probably a little bit of all of that. Perhaps we can say that it is an intimate chronicle of the experience of the Other from the affects, fragility and self-questioning; from kitchens and living rooms.
