WHAT IS AFFECTION?

Author: Marta Cavicchioni

Nationality: Italy

Topic: relationships and affection

Description: What is affection?
What and how many affective relationships can there be?
To really try to answer, we need to defuse the social and cultural customs that see want affection locked into roles and ties for an efficient social order.
Efficient socially, for capital, for consumption, for production.
The confusion arises, perhaps, in wanting to call affection what is instead a system. It has nothing to do with the emotions and loving relationships that move us: gratuitous, thoughtless and inefficient, if not counterproductive.
This exposure of me and my works is certainly not efficient.
Perhaps, if it succeeds in breaking hearts, it will be, at best, effective.
Effective in moving questions, in making people want to imagine themselves.
In making you emerge along with me: us.
Because affection can add up, it does not subtract, at the limit it migrates to leave room for transformation.
An affection can be so effective
that one can feel it, recognize it and in which to recognize oneself? Can one recognize oneself in an affection?
Perhaps. Who knows.
